Thank you for your interest in coaching with Kingston Minor Football League (KMFL).
KMFL is a recreational youth tackle football league, distinct from rep or high-performance programs. Our mandate is to introduce and develop young athletes in the game of football through structured practices, meaningful game play, and age-appropriate competition, all within a safe, supportive, and development-first environment.
While KMFL is not a rep program, we firmly believe there is an important and healthy place for competition within recreational sport. Kids play to compete, to try their best, and to succeed — and we embrace that. At the same time, we place equal importance on teaching athletes that winning is not everything, and that learning how to lose with resilience, respect, and perspective is one of sport’s most valuable life lessons.
If you are passionate about teaching football, mentoring young athletes, and coaching within a recreational competition model, we would love to hear from you.
Coaching with KMFL means balancing competition and development in a way that serves the long-term growth of every athlete.
KMFL coaches are expected to:
Winning matters — but it is not the measure of success. Success is measured by skill development, confidence, resilience, and a positive relationship with sport.
KMFL follows Football Canada’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework and applies it within a recreational league structure.
This means:
Football, like life, does not guarantee wins. KMFL believes that helping young athletes learn how to process disappointment, manage emotions, and keep perspective after a loss is just as important as celebrating success.
Although KMFL is recreational, coaching remains a meaningful responsibility. Transparency is important so expectations are clear.
Coaches are asked to commit to:
Consistency, communication, and presence are essential to creating a positive competitive environment for athletes.
KMFL supports coaches throughout the season and emphasizes education, mentorship, and alignment over prior competitive experience.
Coaches are expected to:
All KMFL coaches and on-field volunteers must complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.
All KMFL coaches must be registered with the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).
KMFL is committed to coach development and will reimburse mandatory training fees required for minimum certification levels.
Required training includes:
Community Sport (Novice) Course (one-year grace period for new coaches)
Safe Contact training is mandatory for all football coaches, regardless of competitive level.
You may be a great fit for KMFL if you:
If your primary interest is elite competition, selection-based programming, or performance-driven outcomes, a rep program may be a better fit — and KMFL is proud to play a different but equally important role in the football pathway.
If this philosophy resonates with you, we invite you to apply.
